I've used quite a few waterstones over the years and this one didn't disappoint. Mirror shine on both my German knives and my pocket knives. I'm not sure about the steel on my Westoff knife, but it's quite hard, and after sharpening on a 1000 grit Cerax stone, this Rika lays the final edge and polishes better than some of the other 8000 grit stones I have have. I would say it polishes just as well as my Norton 8000 waterstone without the "stickiness" that can occur with Norton. It needs to be soaked for 15 minutes before use, so plan ahead - it's not a squirt, it's a rock. One of my pocket knives is VG-10 steel and this rock can handle that too and quickly puts on a razor blade.
