Review on Memorex 8.5GB DL DVD+R - 50 Pack Spindle, 8X Speed by Mike Lunde

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I've burned hundreds of Memorex DVDs with no problems!

Yes, I have burned many hundreds of Memorex double layer and single layer DVDs of which less than 1% have become coasters. Most of the coasters I made were my own fault. I think Memorex is a good product and the DVD backups I made over 3 years ago still work great. I've struggled with coasters before and finally did my research to find the right programs and DVD drive to make good copies. Here's my setup: CloneDVD (google it, try the trial version - then buy it after you fall in love with it). Ease of use) Windows XP and 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) Next important thing: Do not do anything else while burning DVD. I don't care if your computer has 80 CPU cores, 64GB of memory and runs Windows 9 with 4 graphics cards. If you don't want to create coasters, don't run other software while burning the DVD. If you're running a program and your computer gasps for a second and pauses the data stream while burning to DVD, you can say goodbye to the copy. Just click "Copy" and go back 5-20 minutes until you're done. Now that I'm taking this preventive measure, I'm having no problems. I usually only burn ISO images, but have had success with native DVD movie file formats (VOB, etc.). Do not use Windows Explorer to burn data to a DVD unless absolutely necessary. You're guaranteed to fry a few, and you'll likely run into compatibility issues when trying to use the DVD in a portable DVD player. I don't have much faith in Windows because of all the coasters I've made with it. I hope this review helps some of you trying to burn your first DVDs without wasting your hard-earned money on coasters. Please ignore all 1-star BS reviews from people who don't research how to burn a DVD properly!
