I bought my son a Garmin StreetPilot for Christmas and it has really made his and my life a lot easier. But I found this block too big and didn't like the voice prompts for turns. So I bought this device. It's smaller and more portable, which is important to me since I mainly fly and drive. I like the voice prompts on the TomTom better than the Garmin. I didn't miss a corner with the TomTom while I struggled with the Garmin. As others have said, the desktop interface is seriously lacking, but Garmin's is even worse. Why can't these companies understand that? Attempting to interact with TomTom's online services failed, so I didn't try that either. These items would receive a fifth star. But as far as factory performance goes, this device is very good and will get you where you want to go. If Delorme ever releases a device dedicated to car navigation, it will definitely solve the desktop interface problem and blow these guys away. They just released a nice topographical road map unit, but from what I understand it's really designed for off-road use.
