In the last 8 months I have bought 4 different brands of thermostats to power about fifteen Reptitherms (thermal mats under the reptile enclosure). Each vivarium has its own thermostat, so the actual load on each thermostat is minimal: from 12 to 24 W (18 W on average). These are the four brands I've tested so far (they all basically work the same and have both Celsius and Fahrenheit settings) and I've listed their pros and cons compared to other devices, from worst to best (note : I don't know I'm out of papers so regarding the warranty I'll just mention what they advertised): Propogate Pro - 1 Star: The most expensive of the group at $22, it's the only brand that has a warranty in mentioned in their advertisements (1 year guarantee). Doesn't include a wall mount like Boho Farms, but works in the widest temperature range of 34-108 degrees Fahrenheit and the case is solid. Why only 1 star? This brand is the least reliable; 1 out of 4 units I've bought stopped working after just 6 months (none of the other brands have failed to date) which could have been disastrous if we hadn't checked the thermostat bank daily. I searched the Revain website for a way to contact the company to claim the warranty but could not find any contact information. I have contacted Revain customer service and I hope they can help me. Bo Ho Farms - 3 Stars: 2nd cheapest and 2nd most expensive at $17, their ad doesn't mention a guarantee. It has the smallest temperature range of 68-108 degrees F, making it useless if you need to startle your reptiles in winter and drop the temperature down to 55 degrees, but they include a sturdy wall mount which I found (surprisingly). ) has been very helpful from an organizational point of view and the devices have so far proven to be reliable. SunGrow - 4 Stars: Tied to the cheapest price of $16, no advertised guarantee. It has a wide temperature range of 42 to 108 degrees Fahrenheit, making it great year-round (it can handle bruising). Despite being a simple cradleless device, it has been reliable so far. Zacro - 4 stars: The cheapest at $16, the ad doesn't mention a guarantee either. It has the second-highest temperature range of 41 to 108 degrees Fahrenheit (1 degree better than SunGrow, 7 degrees hotter than Propogate Pro), making it ideal for brumation and year-round use. Despite being a basic unit even without a mount, it has been reliable so far. It has slightly supplanted the SunGrow block due to the added 1 degree of flexibility.
