Review on πŸ”₯ First Alert PR710: Slim Photoelectric Smoke Alarm with 10-Year Sealed Battery – Enhanced Safety and Longevity by Keyone Brownlee

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Easy to install, insanely difficult to disable.

Installation was easy, there was enough space in the mounting bracket to fit previous fire alarm brackets and the unit was fairly easy to attach to the bracket. That's where the positives end. Like most people, I need a reliable smoke detector that doesn't work when frying bacon. that's not the detector. When we first fried bacon, not only did all the detectors go off, we also learned how insanely difficult it was to turn them off. The "Silence" button does not work without extreme effort. This is absolutely NOT what you want to deal with if you are trying not to set the bacon on fire. After pressing the mute button so hard that I actually broke the drywall the detector was mounted to, I had to physically remove the rest of their mount, which isn't easy when they're mounted overhead or on stairs, and remove those batteries. When I finished cooking, I had to put the batteries back in, place them on the surface, and press the mute button as hard as possible for them to finally stop. Right now they're more of a liability than an asset and we're again just using one that I can actually get when it's working again. Please do not buy them if you place them anywhere nearby. Where smoke can ever penetrate, you put yourself and your family at greater risk by using them than by not using them. Stay away, buy an alarm with a real button, don't buy them!

Pros
  • Loud 85 decibel alarm and a single test/silence button
Cons
  • Modern
