Disappointed with the quality

I liked the idea of this kit, but for $40 I didn't expect it to come off in the middle of a project and I had to start over. I switched to other sizes and they fell apart too. Now I can't use the two main sizes of hats I need which was the main reason for choosing this set. I think I'll have to buy solid circular needles for the exact project.
