Had a hard time finding a 'lock' I liked for my barn door. This is my bedroom door and I just needed something to keep my little one out. This is of course difficult to fulfill when I am outside the room and need security as it is on the other side. I used a 2x2 piece as an extra "frame" around the door to help with the soundproofing I installed it with. I did this in the reverse order of what I expect most people to do, adding a moving deadbolt to the frame and a lock jamb to the door so I could easily slip my hand between them and latch from the outside. Also provides occasional door protection, as I discovered one evening when my wife angrily flung open the barn door. The lock is ripped out by a moving part rather than a jamb in the door which is much more securely in place and therefore easy to repair. Note: If there's someone in your family who enjoys kicking doors open, whether it's out of excitement, anger, curiosity, boredom because the Revain review didn't want it, and/or any other reason, get rid of your barn door. Your wall, your door and your mind will thank me later.
