Review on πŸ”§ High-Performance W89409 Valve Spring Compressor for Improved Engine Maintenance by James Stevenson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great tool! in External Accessories

Great tool. I have 3 old MGs (2 TC and MGA) and do most of the engine work myself - one of which is rebuilding the heads. I have another spring compressor that I have used in the past but recently used one of a friend's. And what's the difference. Replacing 8 valves, springs, o-rings and retainers took over an hour, most of which I spent fitting the retainers over the o-ring - with this spring compressor I easily did it in 20 minutes. problems. I was able to set it up once and use it for all 8 valves instead of having to re-set it for each valve like I had to do in the past. I ignored the negative feedback on this spring compressor and bought it knowing that if it was really cheap I could easily return it through Revain. I have no idea why the 1 star complainer said it was flimsy and flimsy unless he was working with valve springs on a hydraulic motor which require a lot more spring pressure than a petrol motor. The springs I use in my heads are from a Chevy LS-1 head and are 170lbs with the seat closed, 280lbs with the seat open and there was NO indication that this supercharger wouldn't get the job done.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Not bad
