Very weak. for horns and accessories

Sorry, this tool didn't work. I tried using it on small Chevy Stock springs and the jaws that go over the springs wouldn't hold, they separated and the spring popped out. I could probably switch tools to make it work, but then I can't send it in the back. need stronger steel jaws.

Don't: Horns & Accessories

Maybe I expected too much. didn't work at all on the John Deere engine I was overhauling. However, with some redneck engineering and the use of zip ties, I was able to strap and tie my hands together to keep them from opening and taking parts off long enough to install my valves. I got this working but wouldn't recommend the design.

Works but the coating has chipped

Worked as expected, not a fun tool but did the job. I used it to remove tappets from an old Ford Fe 352 engine. The tappets were in good condition and did not grow like mushrooms so they came out relatively easily. The coating on the tip has started to peel off. Not a big problem, but can cause flakes to get into the engine. It would be better if the tip was black oxide.

Cannot be used without modification

A: The end where the air chuck connector is to attach has an unknown thread pitch. Definitely not a SAE type or metric NPT or AN. You will need to cut the end of the hose and insert a barbed fitting with a female NPT thread. B: I used it on SBF with Victor Jr heads. Spark plug hole 14mm. The 18mm pitch won't fit the head bore and you can't get a wrench on it. C: I ended up resorting to beating the core out of an old spark plug and putting it in an NPT air chuck nipple.

They work great. If you change them.

This spring compressor works great after modification. The flanges on the ends of the jaws that grip the spring are at a 90 degree angle to the jaws so there is no hard locking under pressure. That means they will slip off as soon as you start compressing the spring. This can only be corrected by curling the lips inward. This requires some strength as the jaws are actually quite strong. Once you do that, they will work just fine. I suppose some valve springs can work without a damper withoutโ€ฆ

Good enough to be dangerous to you and your engine

I purchased a W84001 Overhead Valve Spring Compressor performance tool to replace the valve stem seals on my 19 year old truck. The jaws holding the spring are not angled enough to hang on the spring after it is compressed. As a result, the tool accidentally flies away during operation. This is very dangerous when dealing with springs that compress more than 100 pounds and could damage you or your vehicle. Very poor quality control. Made cheap enough to be attractively priced, but never meantโ€ฆ

well made but not for 4 cylinder Jeep Wrangler

looks good, works in a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder jeep. I bought this to pull two jacks out of a 1993 4 cylinder jeep wrangler. 2.5 liters and that's the right size to go up in the lift and grab the ledge. There's also a little retention thingy that doesn't bother but looks like it. As it is a 4 tooth 4 way handle this is probably the tool to use if you need to pull the lift out of a 1993 2.5 liter 4 cylinder jeep. I just couldn't get it to work until the head was off. a two-tooth puller may work. if

Quality tool Made in Taiwan

I have based my purchase solely on user reviews and have been very pleased so far. It's advertised as "Heavy Duty", which I think is based on the built-in slide hammer, which is my favorite feature. With this tool, removing dry lifter is very easy. The collet end is another useful feature that allows you to attach the end to the lifter without having to constantly exert force by squeezing the handles. This allows you to focus on removing the lifter without the added hassle of reattaching theโ€ฆ

Great tool! in External Accessories

Great tool. I have 3 old MGs (2 TC and MGA) and do most of the engine work myself - one of which is rebuilding the heads. I have another spring compressor that I have used in the past but recently used one of a friend's. And what's the difference. Replacing 8 valves, springs, o-rings and retainers took over an hour, most of which I spent fitting the retainers over the o-ring - with this spring compressor I easily did it in 20 minutes. problems. I was able to set it up once and use it for all 8โ€ฆ
