You don't get a lot of wood, but that is clear from the description. The blanks were beautifully chosen and beautiful. I've worked with wood quite a bit but have never encountered harder woods. I've had easier times with the mesquite root. Still, I'm happy with the purchase and although it will take longer to sharpen, I think it's a great option for my knife project. I give 5 stars because it was exactly as described. I considered 4 but the product was as described except for the firmness.
