Labor Saving Unit

For years on the farm I lifted 5 gallon cans of gas to fill my cars. The older I get, the more difficult this task becomes. I've been looking for an opportunity for several years. I have a 12v pump for refueling diesel tractors, but gas storage and refueling are very different due to fire and explosion hazards. I looked at Revain fuel pumps. Being 12v and designed for gas seemed like a good choice. Unfortunately, even the high-pressure pumps were just over 30 gallons per hour, too slow to empty a 5-gallon tank. Then I found this unit. It pumps about 1.2 gallons per minute. Not that bad. When it arrived I was shocked at how heavy and big the pump is. Much more than a typical automotive fuel pump. That thing is meaty! It's also self-priming. I looked around my shop and found a plastic case for an electronic instrument. I threw the device away and started building the pump into the case. After cutting out and attaching the pump to the housing I added the fuel filter and the inlet and outlet quick disconnects. I connected the pump to clamps and a 6 foot wire to connect to the battery. On the top of the pump housing you will see one side marked "IN" and the other marked "EXIT". Obviously to direct the flow of fuel. The pump can be connected to the positive pole on both sides from below. It just works in a different direction. If you have it backwards, remove the connectors and ground and reverse. The positive terminal is the terminal on the side of the pump marked "OUT". Make sure this wire is connected to positive, otherwise the pump will not deliver fuel from the "IN" side. When I need to fill up my car, I take my pump case and two sections of 3/8" clear reinforced hose. Open box to allow pump to stand upright - requires pump to have inlet/outlet facing upwards or mounted vertically. Connect my transparent hoses and DC power. line and I got to work. I added a simple toggle switch to the box at the top. When I'm ready, I flip the switch and the pump starts in just a few seconds. What an improvement. No more hiding heavy canisters in the car's fuel. One downside: after use, about half a liter of petrol remains in the pump, filter and lines. I carefully drain this excess petrol back into the tank.
