This thermometer is the best I have ever used. I bought several department stores for meat, cooking, and a very expensive thermometer ($100) with poor results. The wires of the meat and kitchen thermometer were too short and could not be immersed in seasoning or water and would break when immersed. The cord of an expensive thermometer could be submerged in water, but again the wire was too short, and the device accidentally got stuck in my jam, breaking the meter. This thermometer has a wire that is almost too long and can be submerged in water. The long stroke makes it impossible to throw the counter in the mush or anywhere else. If you are looking for a thermometer, this is the one you should buy. The only problem with the thermometer is that it has to be disassembled to remove the battery to turn it off, no big deal.
