I have been using the Brita system for a few years now and have found it satisfactory. I've also had many issues with the marriage of plastic washers and adapters to metal, and criticism of the overall quality of the product. My conclusion: They had glaring design flaws and a short lifespan. However, I just bought my first Chrome and Black model and overall I find it to be a 100% improvement. First of all, just the appearance - it looks healthier and higher quality. Second, and more importantly, my faucet is male threaded so I don't need adapters. And to my surprise, the unit now has a brass fitting for the faucet threads, so I don't have to worry about all the plastic-to-metal or adapter hassles. Third, the selector switch is also much more reliable and easier to use. Finally, I don't know if it's my imagination or attitude, but filtered water tastes better too. I noticed that Brita included plastic adapters with this device. In the past if you needed an adapter you had to call the company (# in the manual) and they sent you metal adapters for free. This can still be the case so I would advise anyone needing metal to metal adapters to call Brita and request metal adapters.
