Review on Sony® Blu Ray DiscTM Player BDP BX2 by Nathaniel Collins

If you have this player and it is currently working, DO NOT UPDATE THE FIRMWARE. I have had this player since 2012, there were no problems. A few days ago I realized that I had never updated the firmware and that I probably had to do it. After the update, the player stopped playing Blu-rays that used to play normally. It also doesn't play new files that worked fine on other computers. Sony customer support asked me to do a system reset which I have tried before as a google search I found many others had the same issue. None of this worked. I ended up being told my device needed repairs and advised to pay for the device to be shipped and repaired at a service center even though it was a Sony proprietary update that rendered the device inoperable. Since many people face this problem, Sony seems to have released an update with the intention of breaking devices to get money from people paying for repairs or a new Sony player. Well I will not pay more than $100 to ship and fix a great player that Sony broke and I certainly will not buy another Sony product. Buyers beware of Shady Sony.
