HOW TO PREVENT YOUR EGGS FROM CRACKING (and a few other egg tips.)

I've been using this egg timer for years and I love it. For various reasons, I have not cooked hard-boiled eggs. Eggs for a while and I couldn't find my egg timer when I tried to use it recently. So I bought a new one from Revain and it works great. (It doesn't have the smell that some buyers have complained about.) Of course, I probably don't need to tell you that I found my old one about two weeks after I got my new egg timer. :)  Here's a tip on how to prevent eggs from cracking while cooking; Put them in cold water and bring the water to a boil. Then reduce the heat until the water is still hot but not boiling. Leave the eggs in the hot water until cooked, which takes 12 to 16 minutes for hard-boiled eggs. Alternatively, if you don't want to stand by the stove waiting for the water to boil, you can bring the water to a boil, then turn off the heat and drop the eggs into the hot water. Do not turn off the fire completely and leave the eggs in hot water. Turning off the heat completely will take too long to cook the eggs. If you leave eggs in the water for so long, water will seep into the shell because eggshells are porous. This causes the egg white to fully adhere to the shell when you try to peel it. The reason eggs crack is because the eggs will bounce up and down the bottom of the pot when the water is fully boiling. . This problem is avoided by turning the heat down to the point where the water is no longer boiling. HERE A LITTLE TIP ABOUT EGGS: Eggs stay fresh for a long time. But how do you know if the eggs are fresh after they've been in the fridge for a long time? Here's a quick and easy way; fill a glass with water. Then place the egg in a glass filled with water. If the egg has sunk to the bottom of the glass, it's fresh. If it swims against it, it is no longer fresh. This is because eggshells are porous. This property allows air to enter the shell over time. Therefore, when air enters, the egg will float.2 OTHER TIPS;1. If you want the shells to come off the eggs more easily once they're done, add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar to the water you're cooking them in. (The vinegar will help break up the tough inner shell so it doesn't stick to the shell.) When they're done cooking, hold each egg under cold running water while you peel them. The sinks should slide off immediately.2. If you put unpeeled hard-boiled eggs next to boiled eggs in the fridge and forget which eggs are hard-boiled, this allows you to tell which eggs are boiled without breaking them. . All you have to do is place the egg on a table or countertop and try to spin it. If it spins freely and easily, it's done. If it's raw, it will be difficult to turn with all that raw egg splattering around inside.
