Review on πŸ”§ Monroe Shocks & Struts 58651 Shock Absorber with Coil Spring Assembly by Rick Turner

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Big improvement!

Recently bought a 2008 Chrysler Aspen. A good car, but driving on bumpy stretches of the interstate was just plain scary at times. The suspension sometimes threw me onto the next lane. It scared the shit out of me the first time it happened, and it's from someone who's won multiple amateur road racing titles, so I'm not the kind of person who's usually uncomfortable behind the wheel. The car's shocks looked relatively new when I bought it, but they were the cheapest Monroe shocks money can buy. I swapped the fronts for Bilsteins and put these Sensa-Tracs in the rear because I'm towing a trailer and want the stiffness that the extra spring provides. The Sensa-Trac arrived first so I put them on the car first and the improvement was obvious. The ride isn't harder than mine, but control on rough sections of road is much better. With a trailer attached, the correct height at the rear does not sag. Today I installed front Bilstein shock absorbers and they definitely help the car feel more stable at speed but the biggest improvement came after replacing the rear shock absorbers. I just assumed that most SUVs would be a bit jumpy due to their high center of gravity and relatively short wheelbase, but I'm surprised at how much more stable a car with better dampers seems to be.
