This was a replacement for a 30 year old fan that eventually died. I didn't want to replace the whole unit, box and bracket because of the labor. Instead it just snapped into the original ceiling box and I didn't have to change anything. It's rated at 3.5 Sona, which is quieter than average, and a 100 CFM flow rate, which is above average -- even higher than some of the newer models. It uses a plastic squirrel cage as a fan, so it's pretty quiet. There are quieter fans and fans with higher flow rates, but they're expensive, and again, I didn't want to work harder to replace the entire unit. It's worth noting though that I had to modify the block a bit, but since I had the tools it didn't really matter. The square hole on the bottom of the unit (as shown in the picture) was slightly misaligned with the AC power strip around which it was intended to be positioned in the ceiling box. I had to cut about 1/4 inch off one side of the rectangle to fit. Once I did that, it was an easy install. The hardest part was vacuuming and cleaning the ceiling box from 30 years of dust and dirt!
