OXO SUMO ZYLISS GOOD COOK

In addition to this Good Cook smart spoon I have three other ice cream scoops, all of which are excellent. OXO stainless steel; SUMO stainless steel; and a Zyliss ice cream scoop. The SUMO and OXO shovels are identical except for the color of the handle. Both are heavy due to the extra thick, durable stainless steel construction that will last you a lifetime. Zylis is just as well made, just as heavy and has a non-stick coating. The Zyliss has slightly more leverage than the SUMO or OXO due to the unique head design and the fact that all the weight is on the head and not the handle. In fact, this Good Cook Smart Scoop is the second one I own. My first one went missing during a recent move. It will squeeze out a large portion of ice cream with a rounded part on top no matter how hard the ice cream is. This is not visible in the photo, but in fact the head is tilted back from the handles by 10 or 15 degrees, and the rim of the shovel itself is not perfectly round, but concave on the sides like all other shovels. Handles are over an inch wide. All of these features increase leverage when using this shovel. It's mechanically spring-loaded to stay open, and you have to squeeze two handles together to scoop ice cream. This will never be a problem for most, but may be a problem for others with physical disabilities. When you go to an ice cream parlor all of the ice cream served is actually in a temperature controlled freezer allowing for maximum scooping ability and that's how they get such nice cone scoops. All four scoops make nice round scoops of perfect ice cream when the ice cream is "less frozen" like ice cream in an ice cream shop. Unfortunately, the reality is that the ice cream we all use at home comes straight out of the freezer and is always frozen hard. This reality changes everything when it comes to choosing a quality ice cream scoop for home use, and these four scoops are up to the task at hand. I personally just stick the ice cream can in the fridge with the lid open for about an hour before serving and it's perfect for scooping up and I immediately refreeze it once I'm done. You'll get Perfect Scoops every time, no matter which scoop you use. Do not heat the measuring spoon with hot water or immerse it in water before use. This can contaminate your ice and cause serious health problems. If you bake cookies you will get a bonus with GOOD COOK SMART SCOOP. I use the Good Cook Smart Scoop to form 3 tablespoon cold cookie dough scoops. The biscuit is large, 3.75 to 4 inches in diameter and 3/8 inch thick. The size you get will depend on how hard you initially mash them with a fork. This size produces cookies that are always moist and a similar size to the ones you buy at most bakeries. Simply flatten the cold cookie dough with a fork dipped in water and then white sugar. Try to keep them all the same thickness, about 3/8 inch. I've tried every regular ice cream scoop and the best cookie scoops with these release levers instead of handles and they all broke after a few minutes of use. This shovel effortlessly cuts through cold dough. Made from die-cast aluminum, this Good Cook shovel is lighter than the other three but will never break. I lightly oil the inside of the scoop with vegetable oil before shaping each cookie and I always place the cold dough in the scoop and it releases the dough perfectly every time. I also use it to scoop and shape steamed rice balls and mashed potato balls for specific dishes. The Good Cook Smart Scoop and Zyliss Scoop are NOT dishwasher safe as both have a non-stick coating that will peel or peel off over time. They are not safe to use. On the other hand, OXO and SUMO are dishwasher safe, but the color of the handles will fade after a few washes. Two are dishwasher safe and two are not. Any of these four ice cream scoops will get the job done and I'm sure whichever one you choose you simply won't be disappointed when you use it. They are all high quality ice cream balls and I recommend them to everyone.
