Review on Plustek Wireless Document Touchscreen Multi Page by Ivan Carson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

UPDATE 02/19/2020 works fine now

I've decided to update this review after taking the time to get the scanner out and play with it a little more. It works much better for me than originally. I updated the firmware and now the problem with multi-page .pdf files is solved. I also noticed a slight bend in the metal spring on the flatbed module, and after straightening it out I was able to scan a multi-page document without double-feeding. I'm increasing my rating from 2 to 4 stars because it's a really useful tool now, but it used to be more of a disappointment. What made me want to try again was seeing two of these in action. at the office my company does business with and they had no problems with theirs. So I figured it would be worth a try to get it working, and it is. I found another issue, which was that the front USB port was unusually narrow, but everything else works fine. After playing around with the menus, I was able to see my computer on the network and scan straight to a file. I'm glad I gave this scanner a second chance. I'm leaving my original review below untouched because I actually had these issues. But now I feel a lot better with this scanner after finally getting it to work. , assembly and setup were easy. Gmail doesn't like the security protocol, so you have to manually allow access to the device. Once it was up and running, we sent a test scan of a page and "saved it via email". A few seconds later, a .pdf file of our scanned page appeared in our email. Excellent! However, after a few days, when we tried to use it to scan a 19-page document, we encountered many problems. I made at least 6 attempts to scan this file. In 4 out of 6 scans, the paper feeder pulled in several pages at once. Therefore, the paper feeding system does not provide page separation. Remember, this is freshly printed letter-size, general-purpose carbon paper that has been printed on a laser printer. There is nothing unusual about this paper and it fits perfectly in our old scanner. When I noticed she was feeding more than one page at a time, I hit the cancel button on the screen. This worked to cancel the scan, but then the scanner just stopped when the paper was halfway out of the document feeder. He didn't always throw the paper away! So I had to unlock the paper feeder and remove the paper myself. Our old scanner ejects any page that is halfway to the feed mechanism when you cancel the scan job. On a few attempts to scan this 19 page document, all 19 pages were successfully scanned, but we only had 2 such successful scans. The first sent three separate emails containing five different .pdf files. The second email attempt sent an email containing 19 separate PDF files, one for each page. I made sure the settings were set to "multipage .pdf" so pages should be combined. In addition, there were cases when the scanner "hangs" when processing documents. It will simply say "in progress" and the option to cancel. However, since it was hanging, even pressing the cancel button had no effect. I was able to reset it by unplugging it and waiting a bit before plugging it back in. In general I am very disappointed. The scanner has an attractive design and a nice, large and clear touch display. The ability to scan to USB, email, private servers and cloud storage is really great, along with the ability to scan directly from a saved address list. In fact, the idea is great, but the execution is lame. I'm really surprised that other reviewers have had such positive experiences. Every manufacturer sometimes has a lemon. I don't know if that's the case here, but there's definitely something wrong. The firmware may be corrupt, or something is wrong with the processor or internal memory. I could even forgive the paper feed issues as these things sometimes resolve themselves after a break from work when the feed rollers are a bit worn. But long processing times, freezes, and crazy inconsistent emailing of document pages with a separate .pdf attachment for each page) make it impractical for serious business purposes. to be useful. But it looks like a lot more beta testing is needed before it hits the market. I want it to work properly for my application, but that hasn't been my experience with this scanner. Life is too short to be stuck with 4 paper jams and 2 failed emails trying to send a document. My wife has already reconnected our old scanner.
