This is my first GPS. I've been using a Garmin in a rental car and have been tossing and turning between buying a TomTom and a Garmin. I chose TomTom because it had much better reviews. I first used it this week to travel from western Massachusetts to Baltimore, Maryland and have also used it to navigate Washington DC. Here's my review now that I've used it: On the Freeway/Interstate: You might want to get one that has exit names on it. Unless you're very good with meters, this GPS is a bit confusing. When you are on the highway he will tell you to turn right after 400 meters. As the yards count down on screen to help you out, the update appears to be delayed. In total I missed the exit about 6 times. Not bad for a 6 hour drive averaging 1 wrong exit per hour. However, if you get it wrong, this GPS is very good at recalculating fairly quickly and getting you back on course. I found reading the bottom of the screen really helpful as it told me where to turn. But sometimes even that was quite confusing. City Streets/Off-Highway: I actually found this easier to use when driving slower. I didn't have much trouble in Washington DC, which can be a very confusing city to navigate. When I didn't know when to turn, the street names on the screen were very accurate and I only took one wrong turn, which isn't bad for Washington. Miracles and doesn't redirect you into unsafe areas. If you take a wrong turn, there's no "Guided me through the safety zone" setting, so you might end up in places you could have avoided. It can be worth doing some research on the city you're traveling through in advance, in case there are areas you don't want to pass through. I would never have thought of that before my travels. This isn't a disadvantage of GPS, but something a driver should think about in an unfamiliar area. Overall, this GPS is a good deal for the money. I hope to travel across the country this summer. If I didn't think he could pull it off, I would definitely tell you in this review. Although I'm sure it's not the best but with a little patience and getting used to it will get you where you need to go no matter how many wrong turns you make :-)
