Review on Elevate Your Comfort with the Microsoft πŸ’» Sculpt Ergonomic Wireless Desktop Keyboard and Mouse L5V-00001 by Jagvir Singh ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I'm happy with it, the price and the quality, I recommend to buy it.

The keyboard is the main developer tool. Tried MS Comfort Curve Keyboard 3000, MS Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 (not logged in), a couple of mechanics, Macbook, simple membrane keyboards. This one is a clear leader in terms of ease of use and printing speed. The first one, after a year and a half of work, did not survive the beer spilled on it, so I bought a second one of the same kind. There are almost no competitors in the market of wireless, ergonomic, without us-panda keyboards. About reliability - after a year and a half, I accidentally knocked over a little beer on it (leaked out ~ ml. 50). It began to fail, dried, the problem did not go away. Decided to disassemble - this is not an easy process, firstly pull out the scissor keys, do not break out of the difficult. Secondly, I had to tear off the rubber feet, unscrew 20 pieces of small screws, cut them off! about 30-40 plastic rivets that fasten the iron base to the plastic one, peel off the plastic substrate from the iron base with a hair dryer, peel off the black plastic substrate from the transparent one, then the transparent one from the other and only then clean it. It did not help, and it would be almost impossible to put it back together (see photo). As a result, everything seems to be glued, isolated, but in fact it does not survive a very small strait. I assume that over time the glue just dried out. I had to order a second one. The keyboard is still great, but be careful with filling!

Pros
  • Hired for development. 1. Symmetry. NUM-pad separately, when you reach for the mouse, the back does not 'curve' due to the asymmetric movement - it feels better. 2. Print speed. I compared the speed of blind typing on this keyboard, mechanics and macbook. After getting used to, the typing speed is slightly higher than on the mechanics (~ 450-500 characters / min.). 3. Arm rest. Comfortable wrist rest as well as a reverse stand for reverse tilt. 4. Autonomy. I think I changed the batteries 1 or 2 times in a year and a half. 5. Design. I like that all detachable parts are magnetic. Not that you need to disconnect something often, but it's nice. 6. It's good that, despite its compactness, the normal size of the arrows has been preserved - they are convenient to press.
Cons
  • 1. Mouse - firstly, it is not very comfortable, and secondly, the rubber gets dirty very quickly and becomes very unpleasant tactilely, when I tried to use it, I had to wipe it every morning with a damp cloth. The side button is not very convenient. 2. It takes a couple of weeks to get used to the form factor, and most likely it will be inconvenient for those who do not know how to type "blindly". 3. Gloss. Why and why Microsoft loves gloss in their products is a puzzle for me. 4. The material of the wrist rest is wiped off and does not look very neat. I don't know if there's anything to be done here. 5. F-buttons. They are not very large and comfortable (they have a different pressing mechanism), for example, for debug, but you get used to it and then you even like it, so it's debatable here. 6. 'Rattle' of buttons. Quite quickly, a slight rattling and clattering of buttons appeared (on both keyboards that were). The headphones, of course, can not be heard, so it's not critical. 7. 'Unused' space between islands of keys. Could at least embed a scroller like MS Ergonomic 4000. Or a touch panel. The same goes for the space on the wrist rest - the space between is not used in any way, although due to the nature of the keyboard it is quite large. 8. Did not survive the tipping of a glass of beer (see comment), zero maintainability. 9. Number of simultaneously pressed keys. I tried to play it somehow, more than 2 (or 3) simultaneous clicks does not digest. 10. Price. The official price at the time of publication is 9999 - obviously a bust of one and a half to two times.
