Uni finally makes a hub with HDMI and PD output in one hub

I have a number of USB-C hubs as most of my new devices now use USB-C. I find Uni equipment to be consistently high quality and this is no exception. I have other uni hubs but this is the first to support PD and HDMI video output in one device (I had to use a different brand hub before). Overall this hub is my favorite from Uni as it finally combines both PD and HDMI and has very good overall performance. Here are some highlights: Fit and Finish: The device is small and color-coordinated with the MacBook Pro and USB. - With connector fits perfectly. The wire is about 6 inches long and is well protected (sheathed). Heat Dissipation: The device never got very hot even when using video and PD port. The case is metal, which probably means the inside of the device wasn't hot either. I mention this because I've had cheaper USB-C devices that got so hot the case started to melt. However, I didn't have this problem with any of the Uni devices. USB Performance: I tested USB performance by plugging a thumb drive into a USB port and copying the file. The file is transferred very quickly and securely. HDMI Performance: The HDMI connection works great and is capable of transmitting 4K at 30Hz. It should ideally support 60Hz, but this limitation is specific to these USB-C hubs (not sure why). By the way, I've used USB-C hubs that streamed 4K at 60Hz, but I've had more issues with those hubs. I didn't notice any issues at 30Hz, and I didn't notice the 30Hz frame rate. I was also able to easily extend my monitor to a second display (i.e. the Mac didn't prevent me from duplicating my monitor). The HDMI connector fitted well (wasn't too loose or too tight). Ethernet Performance: The Ethernet port worked great and was able to consistently transfer data at over 900MB/s (both upload and download). This means the hub was running at about 100% of what the ethernet cables and my ISP can handle; The hub didn't cause any noticeable performance hits. PD connector: My power bank's USB-C connector is perfect. The hub didn't get very hot even when I plugged it into power and used it for HDMI output.

  • Lots of good vibes
Cons
  • There are downsides
