I'm a decent person, not an electrician. I love my Romex to run straight and smooth and I hate nailing my work over and over again. When running wires through an open joist bay, it's incredibly frustrating to hold the wires "just like that" without pinning them down prematurely, especially when I know there's more to come. So throwing a few of those stackers ahead of time goes a long way toward maintaining order (and my peace of mind). Just pull the wire, plug it in and it stays untwisted and doesn't sag. Follow him with more wire. If necessary, move it to another compartment. Only after that, when I'm done, will I gather my slack in a few places and attach the wire, just in case. As an added measure, if you've ever noticed how flexible a vacuum cord gets after a few minutes of use, you might appreciate that our cords actually get quite hot with prolonged use. These staplers help circulate air around the wires in an uninsulated compartment, or at least prevent heat from building up in stacked wires.
