I installed this on a Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon PC with the latest kernel. It was completely plug and play. If you only have a 2.4GHz SSID to connect to, I would not recommend this adapter. It ran at just 58Mbps while sitting 10ft from my router. I would recommend TP-LINK TL-WN822N. It's not plug and play, but you can find the right drivers and detailed instructions by searching "TL-WN822N Jeremyb31". I always get 144MB with it. If you have 5GHz then this is a good option for the price. iwconfig showed that the speed varies between 80 and 280 Mbit/s with a 5 GHz connection. My router is Netgear WNDR4500.
