Old monitor comes in handy again

We had an old flat screen that only had a VGA connector that we couldn't use on any of our computers anymore. We tried gifting it but to no avail. Then I saw this article and realized I could use this monitor. This adapter is pretty easy to use. Simply download and install the driver, connect the adapter to your computer, and connect your monitor to the adapter with the appropriate cable. The only problem I had was that my MS Surface laptop only has one USB port. Since I usually have a USB mouse and keyboard connected to my computer, I use a USB hub to expand my connectivity. What I learned the hard way is that not all USB ports will work with this video adapter. When I first connected the monitor, it didn't work. After some frustrating experimentation, I found that it worked fine without a hub, and eventually I found a USB 3.0 hub that allowed the adapter to work with the monitor, allowing me to use the display area on my laptop screen and my old monitor could expand.
