I used this tool to remove the linkage from the pitman arm and the tie rod end from the steering knuckle when replacing my bent linkage on a 2012 Jeep JK. It worked like a charm. These were COOL! I used a 1/2" Craftsman ratchet. It was easy to tighten, never had to strain to turn the wrench. I waited a little after the puff and.BOOM! knuckle. Leave the nut in place and Spot so the ball joint doesn't fly!I held the tool loosely to catch it.Be sure to lubricate the threads of both the large and smaller bolts.I used Mobil 1 synthetic grease to cover and against the Pitman lever You don't want the teeth to go all the way into the back of the groove If you can fit the end of the upper arm all the way onto the ball joint of the stock that's good enough NO damage to tool or ball joints and no cuts to dust/grease boots In most cases you can drive the lower end of the U all the way in with a plastic mallet without hitting it OTC Tools Suspension/Steering Kit but after reading the reviews I decided m me for purchasing this hydraulic puller. God I'm glad I did! Not! Built like a tank, it's built to last and comes with a lifetime warranty! Can't win! NO PROBLEM WITH THE SPACE TO USE THIS TOOL! MY JEEP is factory, there is no elevator either. I can't comment on the upper and lower knuckle/swing arm ball joints as I haven't used them yet, but I don't see why it wouldn't work for them as well. Please note: If your ball joints have a hex wrench on the top of the threaded part, be careful to put the nut behind it to avoid deforming or damaging it, otherwise you may have trouble installing the hex wrench. Thing is a monster, it will "push out" those connections with extreme prejudice, even if it has to turn the threaded shank or nut a little! TIP I have a used nut that I use a puller on. Same size nut fits all my Jeep JK ball joints. That way I don't ruin the flanged lock nut that I plan to reuse. I used this puller to remove the tie rod. This one tool removed all ball joints on tie rod, tie rod ends, tie rod. Removed the ball joints on the steering knuckle and tow arm, popped the ball joints on the ends of the tie rod, no problem. Works the same as a jeep service tool drawing, only a lot simpler. Simply tighten the large screw until you feel good resistance, then turn the small screw and the grease will push out the hydraulic action ball joint simply and easily! Simply grease the thread well. I didn't have to hit my arm or knuckles with a hammer. I just screwed it in with a 1/2" ratchet all the way in. Wait a few seconds and BOOM! They came. And makes it easier. Best money I've ever spent on a suspension tool. Will be getting another one soon post some photos.
