So I chose one of these for the value for money compared to a Thunderbolt ethernet adapter. 5GE vs 10GE is not a big difference in terms of cost. The laptop doesn't work with TB anyway, and those who say they don't work either. Have tested this on both Linux and Windows and it all boots and connects to the network with no issues. The port on the actual adapter is Type -C, in which you are equipped with 2 cables as mentioned in the description. I haven't used any of these as I already have a couple of C-Cables that work fine. I was able to sync 2.5 GE with my AP and full 5 GE with my new 5G4T Qnap card. Raid 10 is 3.5 Gb/s or 400 MB/s peak, which is a limitation of spinning hard drives, not SSDs. 5GE is ideal for limiting disk speeds and compatibility with the 5.9.x+ kernel is not an issue.
