Corrosion has ruined the lock

I've had this lock for almost a year now. It has worked fine until today (6/1/16). The last time I unlocked it was in the fall. It always has a rubber keyhole cover. I live in East Tennessee, so our roads don't get a lot of salt, and even if they do, shouldn't the locking mechanism resist corrosion? So today I went to photograph the castle. I found the key didn't fit in the keyhole. Upon inspection, I found corrosion at the very top of the keyhole. I made a small pickaxe out of a piece of copper wire and started drenching the lock with PB penetrating oil and then picking out the softened corrosion from the lock. The key is still not accepted. I soaked it a little more thinking it would loosen up. About 30 minutes later I tried again. No fun! Upon closer inspection, I found that the pins were rusted. No tugging, squeezing, or even hitting with a hammer would loosen them enough for me to use the wrench. My final decision was a Dremel tool and a cutting wheel. It worked. I had one like that many years ago. I've never had a problem with it. It always opened, even after the lock's rubber cover fell off. I don't know what's up with Master Lock, but it's clear that if their locks can't last six months without being flipped, they're using cheaper materials. This castle is very disappointing. I will look for another place to replace it. It's a shame because it's a really nice setup.
