My kids (4 and 6 years old) love this thing. They are always looking for something else to improve themselves. It is easy to use, so even a 4-year-old child can easily handle it. I think it's more of a magnifying glass than a microscope as I doubt you can use it to see individual cells like in a biology class, but if you ask me it's more fun and interesting than traditional microscopes, especially for young children. I confess I like it too and I'm 41 years old. Some things look very strange up close.
