I bought these for the palette. I just wanted to have some sort of spare set on hand. For the price, the can is a decent little package. I found I had to bend the pins that hold the halves in place slightly to more securely hold them in a stable position, but that really doesn't make much of a difference and certainly isn't against the rules. Remember that not all empty shells are the same size. I've encountered this problem with other kits before, so just measure and compare before hitting the buy button on blank forms. As for color, I'm a working artist and I have a color palette that I use and feel comfortable with. beautiful. I have replaced all that came with this kit with my own. I read that a lot of people like the colors that come with this set so I experimented with it. Although the hues are too bright and raw for my own use, they pack with more intensity than one would expect from inexpensive beginner paints. Considering that the whole set - can and paint - costs less than a tube of professional water color, I really expected the paint to be complete rubbish. It's not like that at all! While I doubt it has much staying power, the quality seems at odds with the low price point. I expect this to be a very good starter set, well suited for an artist just starting out in drawing city sketches, commissioning travel sketches, or even painting plein air.
