As much as I wanted to love this product, it didn't live up to my expectations. The gateway refers to a partnership with OpenDNS, which offers basic porn filtering. Apparently, OpenDNS has changed its service so that web filtering is available on a free home account or on its new Umbrella business service, which isn't free. The free Prime DNS service only offers some "content filtering" in terms of protection against certain types of malware, no web filtering. If I'm wrong with that conclusion, I welcome an explanation to the contrary because I was hoping to get a simple porn filter. Contrary to some images on the manufacturer's website and on the box, the GIS-R2 has an LED light string on the front of the device. The seller stated that they are trying to update old pictures. While the lights are to be expected, they suffer from some light hitting the lens nearby, but that's not a big deal. The biggest problem with this gateway was questionable stability. My old gateway blocked from time to time. A firmware update improved this instability to the point where it was blocked once or twice a month at most. So far GIS-R2 has been blocked every last 3 days, usually twice if it happens during business hours and I can restart it. After hours it's only until the next day. That being said, I don't want to just blame the gateway if something else might break it. The time will show. On the plus side, I like many of the gateway's features, from customization to user stats, and particularly the ability to block a specific MAC address if needed (which was the main reason I bought it as a replacement). It can also limit the daily time available to users without the use of codes. While I don't need a more sophisticated timecode assignment method, it also seems to provide the functionality I want. For these reasons, I devote more time to him on the web. But if stability is still unreliable, I'll have to sacrifice nice features and go back to the old gateway. I'll keep my fingers crossed and give it the rest of the week.
