I bought this primarily to bind my daughter's workbooks for home schooling and also in hopes of binding her end of year assignments together. I looked through some reviews and preferred this handcrafted one over the machine because the machines didn't seem much better or didn't have many good reviews. What I liked was that it was fairly easy to use and the holes aren't as close to the edge as the comb binder. I also liked the overall look. What I don't like is that it only does 2-3 pages at a time and the spines are quite expensive. Another reviewer mentioned that you can buy spiral spikes with a 3:1 aspect ratio elsewhere, but they come in a box of 100, so I didn't bother deciding what size I needed. Use this more as a comb binding machine, but I think it's better for things you can carry more for turning pages than comb binding. You can punch up to 15 pages at a time with a comb binder, and comb spines are much cheaper.
