First year of vacation I am a 30-year-old master mechanic. I was hoping to save some money on my daughter's Subaru Tribeca 06 by purchasing this starter. It's possible that it will cost me a lot more! Your Subaru is now mounted on ramps. because I have to partially pull the motor out. because the nose cone on this starter broke for no reason. a piece of the starter nose cone has broken off! It fell into the bell housing behind the torque converter and flywheel. The only way to figure it out is to disconnect the motor from the bell housing. That means everything has to be disconnected from the engine. it must be lifted off the engine mounts with a hoist and the engine moved forward. so I can separate it from the body of the bell. So I can get a piece! then everything has to be reassembled. the starter is installed correctly. It doesn't need gaskets, it wasn't the sealed starter type. Control system in Subaru in perfect condition. This starter has no misfires or anything that would cause the nose cone to break. except bad and cheap casting! Buyers should beware, especially if you're not mechanically inclined to do the work yourself. Because the job costs about $2,000. If this happens to you. I wish someone had left a review like this before I bought this starter.
