I stumbled across these after using a jack directly against welds to raise my cars for tire changes and seasonal tire changes. The welds seemed to hold, but I was always worried that one day they might get damaged. These gaskets help solve this problem by transferring pressure to both sides of the pinch weld, protecting against damage. They smell a lot like new tire rubber when you unpack them, so it's best to unpack them and leave them in the garage (or outside the home) for a few days to let them dissipate.
