My Subaru key had a crack from falling for several months. While it was still working, I was just waiting for the day when it would become a problem and leave me stuck. Several times it opened through a crack and I had to work putting the key back together to make it work. When the key fob's battery finally died, I knew I had to do something to replace the key before it splintered from broken plastic and became disconnected. The dealer asked $300 to make a new one. ridiculous! I bought this (it's just an outer shell, no electronics) and disassembled my original broken key. I had to pay close attention to how all the small internal parts fit together (google the youtube video to see this). Once I assembled it in this new case, it clicked into place like a new key! I'm so glad I went this route and saved a lot of money! Please note that the included valet key insert will need to be cut to fit your vehicle. In my case I still had the original which wasn't damaged so I just used it. Very happy!
