I was concerned that the 1" square shank was strong enough so I added class 8 screws to the sides of the 1/4" shank, to reinforce the drum it. On the 2nd reel I pulled the 1" shaft broke on the threads, an obvious weak point. And yes, I used paint thinner, heat, and a hammer. waste of money.
