The devil is in the settings

I have to admit that I had serious doubts when buying this NAS due to many bad reviews. I read them and it seemed to me that several problems have a common thread. Changes the IP address2. Loses connection/goes to sleep3. SlowKnowing was my hope :-), which I got involved with. Bought a NAS. First, let me say that the NAS is completely silent, which is good since it's 2 feet away from me! When I read that the IP address changed, I realized it was a DHCP issue. It would have made sense to give the NAS a static IP address, but Western Digital decided against it. During the initial setup, the first screen will show you the assigned IP address - PLEASE WRITE IT DOWN - After the setup is complete and before attempting to access the NAS, there are a few things you need to know.1. The IP address for the NAS (for me it was (192.168.1.60) 2. Subnet information 255.255.255.03. Gateway information 192.168.1.14. DNS information (regardless of your ISP DNS number). Log in Now look at the NAS and look at the Top right of the screen should say "Settings" with a gear icon, click on it Now find the tab that says "Network" and click on it .Change DHCP to STATIC and fill in the blanks with the information you collected earlier and you are done, now the NAS will not lose its IP address.(IMPORTANT) ****New NAS IP**** Pay attention Be sure to select an IP address that is higher or lower than your DHCP IP address pool to avoid conflicts.** **Loss of connection is something I believe is due to the NAS going to sleep. Hibernation seemed counterintuitive for the NAS to me, so to fix this i ch back to the settings and on "General" I found Energy saving and turned off the "Sleep mode". I check my electric meter, it doesn't blow up a huge amount of electricity (serious kidding), this thing should put it into "low power mode" so I guess I'm fine. For me, the slowdown was a wild card and it could be many things, I relied on antivirus software and for me I was up to date. Moving 20 gigabytes wirelessly took 2 hours with antivirus enabled. Turned off and time cut in half. Hope this helps someone! Overall I really like the NAS so I gave it 4 stars it would have been 5 but due to some unfortunate manufacturer decisions ending with default settings it has worked without issues so far IMO and I will update this thread if there are any or changes are .
