This is not an RW drive and that's fine. Few things need to be burned to CD/DVD, so this is ideal. If we can save costs as a result, so much the better. It seems to show up in the BIOS as TEAC CD-ROM and when used with a DOS USB driver I've had for years it recognizes it as the same and works fine. Auto-detection of Win 7 and Win 10 confirmed. It is currently connected to a rack server with ESXi, the BIOS detected it and successfully booted/installed ESXi from there. It looks like the max value is 24x. It's a little noisy but not overly so. The noise is not caused by the rotation of the CD, but by the movement of the optical pickup. A NOTICE. Some external CD/DVD-ROM drives can be powered from the main USB port, eliminating the need for a second port. THIS IS NONE OF THEM. To work with the device, you need to connect USB data and power cables. Really can't complain considering the price - it's almost a $12 one-off.
