I had a couple of push pull shower faucets that were almost completely stuck in the off position and I thought they needed a replacement cartridge. The first one I tried didn't fall apart as I thought it wouldn't move. Then I watched a cartridge removal video on Google. They made it very easy, but it really isn't. Did some more research and found a cartridge extractor, ordered one and with a little effort pulled out the first cartridge. After doing the first one, the rest was easier because I knew what I was doing. You're definitely going to need a puller to get the job done no matter how much penetrating lube you use.
