Works out of the box but requires tuning

I just got my Garmin 830 -Sensor get kit touch screen bike computer. The size is perfect. The touch screen works well. The display is clearly visible while driving and reacts very quickly. There is an option where you can plot a course on your phone using the Garmin app and then send the course to Garmin. On my first ride, it gave me a lot of "off-course" warnings because when creating a route, I sometimes ended up on a freeway instead of a bike path. The GPS was set to Smart mode by default, probably to save battery. But looking at the photos of my trip cuts it. I changed the setting to every second and will see how it goes. I used a speed sensor and a cadence sensor which I really like. I couldn't find a way to tell the speed sensor which belt is attached to the wheel axle, the size of my tires. While driving, you can swipe to view different data pages. One of the screens gives a good picture of upcoming elevation changes, so you'll know in advance if a hill is approaching, if you're nearing the bottom of a climb or descending a hill. Another change I had to make was adding a heart rate data field to Garmin. By default, Garmin doesn't show heart rate on either screen, although a heart-rate strap is included. It was easy to add during my trip and now it's on the way. The 830 also indicated that my ride was mountainous. Under Activity Profiles there is an option that allows you to change the default travel type. Overall I am satisfied with this new model and can only recommend it. The price is a bit confusing.
