I'm so glad I bought the 830 touchscreen model and not the 530 button model

I've read a lot of reviews and articles about buttons being more practical than a touchscreen but I'm so glad I ignored this (bad) advice. The touchscreen is very responsive and works great while driving. However, most of the time I use the menus while getting off my bike (better looking at the trail/road than fiddling with device settings when there are rocks, rocks, trees and traffic). Navigating through multiple menu hierarchies would be a cumbersome time-waster with buttons, as the same…

Many problems with GPS navigation when mountain biking

I had an Edge 520+ before this device and its navigation features just didn't work for mountain biking. So I bought this device for its touted mountain bike-friendly features. I was hoping that one of those features would be improved navigation for mountain biking. NOT CORRECT! I'm having the following issues with a Traiforks or Garmin Connect route loaded onto my device. The device does not show me the direction to turn, even if "Turn Assistant" is activated. Turn - "0ft for Turn X" - Map…

Pros
  • Battery life: up to 20 hours with GPS; Works with a Garmin Charge power adapter, providing up to 40 hours of extra battery life
Cons

Best option for bike adventures

Before How to choose an Edge 830 , I tried several other brands of bike head units/GPS and finally settled on this one. Aside from all the expected features of the 830 that other branded head units have (which I won't go into here - if you look for technical details you can find plenty of 830 articles online) what struck me as the reality is the scenario World how responsive and useful the touchscreen feature was. Instead of having to remember which button does what, using the Edge 830 was as…

Pros
  • MTB Dynamics measures jump count, jump distance, hang time and endurance, Ride Difficulty Score and Flow, which tracks the smoothness of your descent so you can score more next time
Cons
  • Requires a power outlet

2 really big problems (for me)

I'm frustrated for 2 main reasons. 1.) Consequences. I have strong signal drops between the Garmin cadence module and the 830 (which the 830 finds quickly) and the speedbox which is mounted on the classic American back and the 830 (which takes about 2 miles to connect). Two very different times, climbing a big hill, I didn't notice a connection (when I should have been thinking of climbing!). And on another occasion, just before the climb, while checking the data after the ride myself, I…

Works out of the box but requires tuning

I just got my Garmin 830 -Sensor get kit touch screen bike computer. The size is perfect. The touch screen works well. The display is clearly visible while driving and reacts very quickly. There is an option where you can plot a course on your phone using the Garmin app and then send the course to Garmin. On my first ride, it gave me a lot of "off-course" warnings because when creating a route, I sometimes ended up on a freeway instead of a bike path. The GPS was set to Smart mode by default…

Road bike: everything you need Garmin Ultimate Support

I did a lot of research before deciding on this device. It has way more features than I've ever used, but that means it has everything I need. Setting it up is a little tricky. For some reason, the Bluetooth pairing failed at first. A simple restart of the phone and Garmin fixed the problem. The touchscreen works well but is a little slow to respond to touch. Although it's not scary. The battery life seems good enough, but I think around 8 hours of use is the best you'll get from a new device…

Pros
  • Personalize with free apps, widgets and data fields from the Connect IQ Store. Sensor Compatibility - ANT Plus, BLE
Cons
  • Long Lead Time
