Review on 🔌 Enhanced Connectivity: HLT M.2 (NGFF) to mPCIe (PCIe+USB) Adapter for Seamless Integration by Tim Hull

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Worked very well with all except AC-9560 but has ONE major design flaw

I have tested using the following network cards: 1. Intel®Wireless-AC 92602. Intel®Wi-Fi 6 AX2003. Intel® Wireless-AC 9560 - WILL NOT WORK with mPCIe slot - appears to be WRONG BUS PROTOCOL FOR CARD4. Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 All cards that worked worked without modification for the Dell Vostro 1700s, Vostro 1720s, Vostro 3500s, Vostro 3550s, Precision 6600, and Latitude 6430 I tested. The Vostro 1700 has a very unique problem with its mPCIe bus and mPCIe's USB-based Bluetooth could not be configured with the card, although the wireless connection worked fine. Seems Dell didn't route all signals to their mPCIe slot to enable Bluetooth from that USB port. However, you can use multiple cards in the Vostro 1700s, so you can keep older wireless devices like the 6250N for use with a 32-bit operating system. Systems like Windows XP for dual boot systems. Toshiba Satellite A505, L505, L515, (D) etc. (all with Core II Duos or AMD "equivalent") worked, but all required pin masking on the adapter board. .Pin 20 - Mask this pin to override the computer's wireless network enable/disable switch. Once disguised, it will always be on. Make sure the network is set up in Device Manager so that power settings don't turn off the device either. Pin 56 - I had to mask this pin on each of the adapters. After earning bluetooth. Note that these cards require new antennas. You need an MHF4 type antenna with smaller connectors. Also download the drivers you need BEFORE installing the card if you don't have access to an Ethernet network. I liked the fact that the adapter could be cut in a number of places to fit the card to a laptop in a limited space. However, the adapter has a HUGE fundamental flaw. After trimming (especially for half height) there is NO HOLE to screw the M.2 NIC to the adapter to keep it in place! The adapter can be screwed onto the laptop, but the card sticks out at an angle and is not secured. Don't click on other active leads. To mount M.2 cards in the CENTER of the adapter, there must be a center point as the adapter screws to the laptop on the side of the card.

Pros
  • PCIeMiniCard support: IEEE WLAN802.11a/b/g/n, 802.11d, 802.11e, 802.11i, 802.11h, 802.11ac
Cons
  • Some minor issues
