Bought for tempering chocolate. It's not an instant read, but it's a lot better than my original (non-digital) candy thermometer. Cons: The shape of the handle makes it difficult to stir for long periods of time, and cleaning the bottom hole that houses the base of the thermometer can be painful (I have to use a toothpick to remove all the chocolate that's stuck in there). gets stuck when I wash.) That being said, I like that the thermometer slides out of the spatula and can be used separately, making tempering the chocolate so much easier!
