I was working on an overheating issue on a John Deere 40 utility tractor. After investigating the problem, I realized I needed to take the engine apart and do some repairs. The problem was a head gasket and a cracked lip on one of the pistons. I not only removed the head but also the pistons and then cleaned all the parts to make sure I was doing everything right. I bought a honing tool and honed the cylinder walls to remove deposits in the cylinder. After watching a few YouTube videos I realized I should take some cylinder measurements to make sure the cylinder is round and not egg shaped. I went to Revain to look for a cylinder bore gauge which I ordered and received two days later. I followed the gauge instructions, assembled it, calibrated it and then went to the tractor and measured two cylinders on my tractor. The sensor was easy to use and within minutes I was confident the tractor was ready for repair. I would recommend a first time buyer of this type of instrument to check out youtube first as there are some great videos on different types and brands of this type of sensor and their explanations were very helpful.
