Review on LTWHOME Fish Filter Sponge Media by Rhonda Jennings

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A good product. Use extra bleed for bonus biomedia!

Features three different strength filters and when covered with a buffing pad they fill one filter compartment of the canister fairly tightly but allows you to use the others for biological and chemical media such as charcoal . I used the measuring tray and intentionally made them a bit larger so they fit snugly. My canister is larger, so I was only able to take one set of these. Most don't recommend this, but the way I wash my sponges is that they only trap dirt in the raw tap water. My theory, especially with cycling, is that bacteria are meant to grow in places that won't be replaced. You could probably shorten your cycle by planting them and growing bacteria on them. They are certainly porous and will be a great place for him to grow. The problem is that eventually they will be replaced and then you might see a spike. I use the extra bits to fill my media pouches so I always have a spare sponge on hand in case I need a quarantine tank. They can be taken out and temporarily tied to a sowing sponge. You'll also always have media ready for a second filter or for someone running a tank to get their filter running faster. Just replace what you take out. The filter is restored in no time with just a few parts, not all. Allow bacteria to thrive in biobeads, matrix, ceramic rings, scouring pads or whatever you use. They work well and keep the aquarium clean. A quick rinse in untreated water will help keep your pores open and encourage bacteria in the best spots. They should last at least a year before needing to be replaced.
