I love this little gadget - I don't mind using old hand mills for salt and pepper - but it's a lot easier. You can charge this thing: I charged mine 5-6 days ago and it's still working pretty well. I use it many times a day with my pink salt - once you press the button it automatically turns on when you flip it over to add salt/pepper and automatically stops when you put it down.
