May contain granite but is not solid granite. It was made in the form of concrete material, possibly with particles of granite. The packaging says Made in China, although the title says "USA". Bottom line - we don't eat from it. We made preliminary preparation - we ground rice, we ground water. But I quickly realized that we weren't dusting off a solid piece of stone here. Everything is made of concrete dust. I suggest looking elsewhere for a hard stone mortar and pestle.
