Review on Enhanced OWC Mercury Pro 5.25" External Optical Drive Enclosure (Drive NOT Included) by Victor Jack

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fantastic - The best 5.25 inch chassis to date

This is a phenomenal product. It's way better than the competition. I was looking for my first Blu-ray drive for backup, specifically MDisc, but my computer doesn't have a 5.25" optical drive bay. There doesn't seem to be many companies making external cases for them. All I could find after searching many sites was this and the Vantec Vantec NST-536S3-BK NexStar DX USB 3.0 External SATA Blu-Ray/CD/DVD Drive Enclosure is all black. I ended up dropping the Vantec and I'm glad I did because there would be no comparison. It's an EXTREMELY beautiful all-metal body with really nice contrasts of brushed metal on the top. There is no comparison between this and the pictures of that ugly black Vantec But maybe you are more interested in the functionality that looks? Что ж, вы определенно захотите получить это по сравнению с Vantec, потому что с точки зрения технических характеристик он на самом деле значительно лучше.Вот способы: 1. Мощность - если вы читаете отрицательные отзывы Vantec, вы найдете тех, кто жалуется, что это not so. not enough power to run some of the torches with more powerful lasers. The power supply at Vantec is only 2A. In fact, many SATA to USB cables used for external hard drives (or even some optical drives) only supply 2A power. It might be fine for 3.5" hard drives or some optical drives, but if you want to be sure you've got the power you need, get this. No skimps have been put on the power adapter, it's rated at 3A 50% more powerful than the Vantec.2. Speed. If you've read Vantec reviews, some complain that Vantec can have USB 2.0 speeds of 480Mbps. I don't know if that's true or if they just plugged their Vantec into a USB 2.0 port, but rest assured it's definitely USB 3.0 and there's no faster case on the market today than this one. . Size - I know some reviewers complain that it doesn't fit their particular drive. I'm not sure what drive they have, if it's an old one with bulkier technology or something, but I just put in the latest LG WH16NS40 which is one of the best performing drives (MDisc, Blu-Ray MDisc, Quad Layer BluRayXL 100 + GB etc.). It can burn almost anything, but it fits very well in this outer shell. I don't want this case to be any bigger because honestly 5.25" drives are big, cases make them bigger and I just don't want it to take up more real estate on my desk! This thing isn't small and I'm really glad it's not bigger. People praise the Vantec for being bigger, but that's not a plus for me. Just measure your rim first to make sure it will fit (or look up the manufacturer's specs online). ), and then size won". That won't be a problem for you. 4. Case Fan Noise - If you've read the negative Vantec reviews, many of you complain about the slightly noisy fan, which is really annoying. This one doesn't have a fan.I think aluminum conducts heat away from the case pretty well, so the noise is only coming from your drive.5.Drive Noise - This case has been very thoughtfully designed. The case has mounting points for all eight screw holes, located at The sides of the optical drives are located and each has rubber grommets to reduce vibration Nutrition.6 Noise from table vibration Yes, they thought of that too by installing very nice transparent rubber feet on the bottom of the case to reduce vibration well 7. Design is not only good looking but also very functional My drive fits tightly with no obvious gaps around the front panel e around. The back has a very simple design with a main power button, a USB port, a power connector, and a lock connector in case you need to install it in a high-traffic area. Are there any disadvantages? I do not think so. A few other reviewers mentioned that the metal around the edge of the bezel warped slightly when they took it out of the box, and so did mine. But there's nothing wrong with that - the metal deformed easily because it was soft, soft enough that you could bend it into place without tools. Not that you really have to worry about it looking good when you fold it. You just have to make it "straight" because once you insert the inner drive tray into the outer case and start screwing the legs into the base of the blocks, the screws tighten everything up, using just enough force to close the metal keep absolutely level and flat. You can't tell mine was ever bent, and it really was the bolts and not my dexterity. It's possible that some of your bottom screw holes may not line up perfectly at first due to the bend, but straighten your finger again and then apply some force to the front edges of the drive panel (not the door, button, or anything that's sensitive is). , but only the outer plastic), and this is pushed through the inner case just enough so that the holes line up just enough for the screws to be inserted. And when you start tightening it, it will be perfectly flush. If that sounds complicated, it isn't - it was really easy and everything looks perfect. You'll see how it's done as soon as you get your hands on it. Conclusion: This case is like buying a high-end Apple computer or a good Windows gaming system, while the Vantec looks like a budget PC with some inferior parts (like the power supply). . When I bought it it was $49 and the Vantec was $43. It's only a $6 difference for a better case. I couldn't get over the fact that the Vantec looked like it was going to cost $20. In fact, it seems that the price is somewhat related to the quality. And for only $6 more, just get it. You get more than $6 additional value.
