I had one of these antennas on a previous boat and I was not impressed by their quality. Unfortunately nobody makes quality 36" antennas VHF -Navy antenna. All higher quality antennas are 48 inches or longer. My current boat is in a covered dock and I don't have enough vertical clearance for a 48" antenna. So I had to buy another one right away. Here are the issues with this antenna: 1. Overall length is about 40 inches, not 36 inches as advertised by the manufacturer. This can create space issues for boats in boathouses, covered docks, etc. 2- The socket where the coaxial cable comes out of the base does not fit well. The hole is not sealed. 3- The pod will weather with age and sunlight discoloring the base with a black streak. 4- The plastic base wears out over time. The surface becomes rough and covered with lime. On a positive note, FM reception is good with this antenna.
