I bought this to use as a rod holder for trips to the beach. I was able to get it working with my Thule xsporter rack using T-rails and some Thule adapter screws. I installed a roof rack on my truck about a month before the trip. The rack broke before it was time to travel. When I first opened the trunk, the feathers themselves flew into the yard. I found one of these. Don't worry, it could still be used without the springs. The plastic buttons fall out every time you open it. In the middle of my ride, one of the lock cylinders falls out. Luckily I had brought my zip ties with me. This thing comes off my truck and goes straight in the trash when I get home.
